RE: Serious Question

Sorry I can't offer an opinion for you, but for some reason seeing nice looking women wearing them is hot.

RE: Living in a class A (dumb or not?)

Travel trailers have a whole lot more living space for the $$ spent. If you're close to work, the gas mileage of the truck shouldn't be too much of an issue.

RE: Want basic cell phone

Something that REALLY bites is the ATT/Cingular pay as you go phone coverage is much less comprehensive than the coverage for a phone with a monthly minutes plan. I considered changing one of my pay as you go phones back to a monthly plan before my last trip out west, but then I'd be stuck paying $30-$40 a month for two years. Pay as you go reception coverage was so poor, I may as well left the phone at home. grrr. Isn't paying $.25 a minute enough?

RE: Smart cars and Outlaws.Update

I'm regularly getting 37-39 mpg in my 4 door 5 speed yaris. You can get a hatchback for around 11K. Smart cars cost how much again? 18K? 38 years for the smart car to save you gas money over the Yaris and there are Toyota dealers everywhere.

RE: Witnessed Substantial decrease in travel?

Come to think about it there were a lot of foreign languages being spoken all over the campground from people in those rental units. There was even one large red RV, Foreign made, larger than a prevost, I have seen one just like it a couple years ago in the midwest, that pulled into the campground. It has bus like seats for about 18 people up front and the back end has cubbie hole bunk like sleeping compartments behind a fold down porch and a canvas where they sleep. The kitchen came out on the side and the German driver also did the cooking for everyone. They were all foreign people and haveing a great time. So maybe it is cheaper here for them, and at least they got to see our beautiful Yosemite park. Thanks for pointing that out to me. Dividing the fuel costs between 18 people would make it very reasonable. Imagine 18 and one potty though!;)

RE: Refrigerator

6 years is not much mileage on a refrigerator unless it is run quite a bit. Sure it's not worth repairing?

RE: Must be tough times for these people

We are vacationing in "Deliverance" country. Very rural. Decent park where we are staying. Little tiny one axle trailer came in here two days ago and are staying a month. (Got some of this from the park managment). This trailer is about 16 feet and an older one. The people are two adults with 4 kids. The kids are home schooled. Kids are always clean and well fed. They must be homeless. Came with 2 cars and they left and brought back another one. Moved here from a neighboring town. Sad situation. Kids are nice kids and well behaved. What is sadder is the messed up kids from parents who gave the kids every material need and more to show how much they loved them. Parents never had time to go camping or spend time with the family, as they were too busy working to pay for "stuff"

RE: Hail and Rubber Roofs

You are positive the gray/black marks weren't on there before the hail storm? I've seen gray and black marks from mildew on aged roofs.

RE: Well, made the decision to sell...

Cost of extraction is estimated to be in the $40-$50 a barrel range. They don't need a subsidy, they need a price floor to keep the foreign interests from tanking long term investments by ramping up oil production. Why invest in any technology to extract it when lawyers are circling overhead just itching for a bite of any company that thinks about harvesting domestic oil or oil shale? The US Senate just this week said no to domestic energy. Scoring political points are more important than your pocket book and pain at the pump.

RE: Well, made the decision to sell...

Just can't justify the diesel truck with the prices any more. Now I have to go through the sad process of taking all the personal stuff out, cleaning it up, and doing walk thru's with potential buyers. I just hope there are buyers out there right now. Just gonna try to get payoff so I hope that helps it sell. Gotta clean up the truck and try to trade it off too. Right side up on it by far so shouldn't be that hard. Hate the thoughts of going back to hotels. I have to add that I do blame the oil enriched people in office for this loss. Mike Boilermakers Local 592 It is estimated that there are two trillion barrels of unexplored oil shale right here in the United States. That's trillion with a "t". One party continues to impede any attempts to use it. The American Energy Protection Act of 2008 (Senate Bill 2958) would remove restrictions on oil exploration and drilling in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). This would have opened access to about 24 billion barrels of oil, which is enough to keep America running for five years with no foreign imports, while other energy technologies are being developed. Voted down in the Senate From recent email A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in our country Well, there's a very simple answer.Nobody bothered to check the oil. We just didn't know we were getting low. The reason for that is purely geographical. Our OIL is located in ALASKA California Coastal Florida Coastal Louisiana Kansas Oklahoma Pennsylvania Texas And our DIPSTICKS are ALL located in Washington DC !!! Any Questions???

RE: accident

Sometimes when faced with an annoying vehicle an am unable to get around, I stop take a break, stretch a bit and hope they get far enough ahead of me that I never see them again. I also take a moment to consider that I'm taking a break from stress and the hustle and bustle. If I'm getting all tense and bent out of shape while diving on vacation, I'm doing something wrong and need to adjust my attitude. Slow and steady wins the race many times.

RE: What a trip...

Well, our Memorial Day weekend trip was...well, let me just say awful. We got there at about 6:30 Friday, got set up, all well and good. Our friends got there, we played games, etc. Until...at about 4:30 AM we started hearing the distant ominous sound of thunder. Soon after, rain. more rain. and more rain, and storms. Until about 1:30 Saturday. It finally stopped. The temp. through all of this, a whopping 48 degrees! Whoo, hey mom let's get the boat and go down to the lake, I want to ski!! Anyway, it was just miserable. My dad got frozen trying to figure out the furnace for mom, Mom was stressed, our friends were on end, and I was stuck in the middle. We all decided to see the new Indiana Jones a few miles away in Kirksville, and that was okay. The only good part was Saturday evening, we played Badmitten, ate smores, and had a good time. Then our fiends called home to get the weather. 50-60% chance for severe t-storms Saturday night and Sunday. So we decided to pack up our pup's at 11:30 at night and pull out, and drive 2 hours back home. It was quite an adventure. Tyler It's what memories are made of. You will be telling that story to your kids someday. Good decision on getting out of Dodge. The number of deadly tornadoes this weekend was scary. Add a battery powered weather radio to your camping gear folks!

RE: AVG 8.0 Install Problem

Tough question. I went from running zone alarm to Avast earlier this year. It works for me. It is fairly unobtrusive, doesn't seem to suck down computer resources. 4.7 out of 5 rating. http://www.majorgeeks.com/Avast_Home_Edition_d1968.html 4.59 out of 5 rating. http://www.majorgeeks.com/AVG_AntiVirus_Free_Edition_d886.html

RE: Newbie question

I wish I knew who I swiped this from on the forum. What runs on what power source. house battery (DC coach power): DC 12 volt sockets All the internal and external lighting. The TV antenna amplifier. The fresh water pump. LP gas detector. The controls and fan for the furnace/AC. The controls for the refrigerator. All the exhaust fans. Maybe the in dash radio/CD player but it may run off the vehicle battery. I believe the starter motor for the generator but that may be on the vehicle battery too. Here are the things that run on AC power: The compressor for the air conditioning. The microwave oven. The heater for the refrigerator. All the internal and external AC outlets. Here are the things that run on propane: The stove. The hot water heater. The heat for the furnace. The heater for the refrigerator. Finally here is how things are typically inter-related: AC shore power will also drive a power converter that provides DC coach power and battery charging for the house battery. Your coach battery won't run down as long as you have shore power. When the vehicle's engine is running the alternator that charges the vehicle battery will also charge the coach battery. There may be a switch you can activate that allows the coach battery to crank the vehicle engine in an emergency. If you don't have AC shore power available the generator will do anything that AC shore power can do. In a gasoline powered MH the fuel for the generator comes from the vehicle's gasoline tank. In a Diesel powered MH the generator might be a Diesel unit that runs from the vehicle fuel tank or it might be a propane unit that runs from the propane tank. Generators that are powered from the vehicle fuel tank generally have a fuel pickup that will not allow the generator to use vehicle fuel when the tank is below 1/4 full to prevent you from stranding yourself by using all the vehicle fuel in the generator. The refrigerator gets power for its heater from either AC power or propane but it also requires DC power from the coach battery for its controller. Some refrigerators can also get heater power from the coach battery but since this drains the battery quickly it is uncommon. RV refrigerators do not use "freon" and a compressor like home refrigerators. Instead they use ammonia as the refrigerant and the circulation of the ammonia is driven by a heater instead of a compressor. This is what allows them to run off either propane or electrical power.

RE: Newbie question

Ok, I'm gonna show my newbieness here...sorry. What would be the need in running the generator while driving down the road? Aren't you getting enough power from the motorhome's engine to power everything? Sorry for my ignorance. Thanks, Stacy Not for the coach AC, microwave or refrigerator. The engine electrical output is going to run dash AC fan, lights and some output is going to charge up your coach batteries. Your alternator on the engine is putting out a fraction of the power needed to start and run your rooftop AC.

The THM 400 transmission is still used in US Army humvees according to Wikipedia. I have one, but I wish it had an overdrive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbo-Hydramatic
